I am Jaco van der Tang, Managing Partner at COURIUS, author and guest lecturer at the Haagse Hogeschool and Hogeschool Rotterdam, among others. The three passions in my life: work, sport and family, are constantly competing for priority. If these passions are in balance (and that doesn’t always mean three x 1/3) then I am happy. And happiness is a great starting point for doing good work myself and transferring it to others.

My specialties

With over 20 years’ experience in management and executive roles at large organisations such as ABN AMRO, Achmea and ArboNed, I am an expert by experience who understands that practice is much more unruly than theory suggests. I work as a consultant, team coach and executive and business coach. My style is friendly and connecting, but firm. The type of organisation I work for varies widely in size and is in both business and government.

Results first

The basis for my work is achieving results. You probably know the saying “You have to enjoy the journey, then the result is less important”. That saying is wasted on me!

Investing in people

With achieving results as a given, it automatically creates a lot of space to work on everything that makes employees and customers happy. And that is fun, rewarding and leads to even more success. Hence, genuinely investing in the people around me is another point that characterises me.

Simplicity and practicality

I always try to put simplicity first in my approach. Managers often take themselves far too seriously and unnecessarily turn challenges into complicated problems. In my book ‘INKOPPERS for those who don’t read management books’, I give guidance to managers on how to deal with dilemmas in their working lives in a practical way.
